The Edwin Smith Papyrus – the oldest medical book of the world by Břetislav Vachala.

The Edwin Smith surgical papyrus (cca 1600 BC) is introduced, described and commented. The author presents the Czech translations of its cases nos. 3, 12, 25, 31 and 48. The importance of the papyrus is given into the context of the advanced ancient Egyptian medicine. The first volume of the forthcoming publication „The Medicine of Ancient Egyptians“ is announced.
