The association between insulin resistance (IR) and impaired mitochondrial function has been alternately disputed and supported by many studies. Recent articles even suggested that a decreased turnover of oxidative phosphorylation could prevent IR. A more detailed research of transcriptional co-activators from the PGC-1 family could possibly bring the solution to these rather conflicting data.
